LEAVEY—In keeping with the club’s promise to expand programming, the Georgetown University Indoor Education club has announced a new social climbing trip for students starting in January. Students who sign up and pay the mandatory $150 stemware fee will travel to the Kennedy Center for its “Winter Gala” to grapple with the ins and outs of social climbing and networking.

“It can be a difficult climb, but it’s highly rewarding when you finally reach the top,” said the club’s founder and current president John C. Guffinton Jr. (COL ’11). “I don’t want to scare anyone away but it’s also pretty dangerous. I’ve seen a few students slip and almost fall. One wrong step, say using a desert spoon to stir tea or asking the head of the local residence association if she’s ever tasted sevruga caviar encrusted truffles, and you’re done for.”

Guffington says students can gain innumerable life skills from the trip, such as feigning interest, making and exchanging business cards, and dropping friends who are no longer useful.
