MULTI-SPORT FIELD—The Hoyas’ pre-game hopes of ending their 0-7 losing streak were quickly extinguished Tuesday evening as they fell to the Harbin Floor 9 intramural flag-football team 35-7. The defeat against the flag-wearing squad saw the Hoyas fail to capitalize on their overwhelming advantage in equipment, financial resources, and number of recruited football players, as the enthusiastic freshmen repeatedly brought them down with ease. “Our guys played their hearts out, but in the end, Harbin 9 was just more talented,” said Hoya Coach Kevin Kelly. “They even ran more than two different plays!”

“We never got into a rhythm,” added sophomore DT Mike Ashbury (MSB ’10). “If we had been able to tackle them, they weren’t wearing pads, so we probably could’ve hurt one of them and made them forfeit the game. But they were fast little guys.”

Though the defeat marked their eigth consecutive loss of their winless season, the Hoyas found reason for continued optimism. The touchdown scored by the Georgetown offense represents their most productive outing of the season, one that QB Keith Crenshaw (MSB ’11) believes could be “the breakthrough we’ve been waiting for.” Harbin QB Mitch Rogers (SFS ’13), responsible for 4 of his team’s 5 TDs, complimented the Hoyas’ effort. “It seemed like they were trying really hard, almost like a real team,” he said. “I felt bad running up the score, but we haven’t won a game in the flag-football league all season.”

“I’m sure one of these days they’ll make a game competitive,” added Rogers, as he wheeled his way up the ramp to Harbin patio.
