A group called Swift Truth Veterans for Boats recently published several commercial advertisements attacking both the Bush and Kerry campaignsfor using only cars, buses, trains, and planes to travel the country spreading their messages. Men and women from a dozen coastline states have gathered in meeting halls since July to protest what they see as a blatant oversight by two candidates who constantly claim to “know” the American people. In one ad, Bill Myers of Newport, RI appears on the screen with a picture of his 40ft fishing boat behind him. Myers reflects, “Why only on-road vehicles? I’ve never driven a car in my life. How am I supposed to relate to them?” Both campaigns have released documents that question whether or not Myers has actually never drive in a car. And the Democrats responded earlier that Kerry in fact was among the Swift Boat soldiers in Vietnam, so Myers’ accusations are inaccurate. The Bush campaign responded, saying that not only did Kerry not deserve his Purple Hearts, but that he was not even born until after the Vietnam war ended.
