Grammy Winner McFerrin Added to Staff; Nothing Changes
For years, Georgetown has been known as an academic powerhouse across the nation. Unfortunately it has never been known for its creativity. Grammy winning singer/song-writer Bobby McFerrin is the latest addition to the faculty of the department of Art, Music and Theater. Georgetown hired now Professor McFerrin in the hopes of boosting the reputation of the AMTH department. Prior to hiring McFerrin, the highest accomplishment of the department belonged to Professor Rod Shafty who achieved a Master’s in Paint by Number. When asked how he felt about a more accomplished professor joining the faculty Professor Shafty agitatedly exclaimed, “He might have a Grammy, but can he stay in the lines when he colors? Huh? Can he make all the #1s yellow and the #3s pink? I doubt it!”
Students do not seem to share the sentiments of Professor Shafty. The Heckler surveyed a total of one student to find out the buzz around campus. When surveyed, Harriet Carringtoninwangiton (NHS ’07) responded “Bobby McFerrin? Uh, who’s that?” Clearly the entire student body is excited to have such a famous artist join the staff. In addition to teaching a music seminar every now and then, McFerrin will also teach a self help class in which he advises not to worry and be happy for no reason at all.
