B-FONY Club Re-Assembles for 9th Straight Year
Two weeks ago the mostly inactive B-FONY club convened in Leavey for what is likely to be their first and last meeting of the year. B-FONY, which stands for Bandwagon Fans of New York is a club composed of mostly Jersey students and those annoying kids who are from “the city,” which more likely means some Long Island suburb. Wearing their brand new Yankees caps they spent an hour talking about “how sweet that new Japanese guy is” and how the Yankees wouldn’t choke again this year, like they did last year against “that other team.” To an outsider, it would seem that the group assembled had little interest in the team, and had probably not seen a game all year. However, when I addressed this issue with club member Johnny Toole (MSB 06), he quickly put me in my place. “The Yankees fuckin’ rock, man,” said Toole. The club planned an exciting list of activities for the next two weeks, including a lecture entitled “How to talk loudly about the Yankees without having to say anything relevant or anything indicative of your limited knowledge of the team,” a field trip to Red Square to make fun of kids in Red Sox hats, and a “Bitchin World Series party.”
