‘Club 196-89-7009’ Becomes Official GU Student Organization
Group Will Target Students with Social Security Number 196-89-7009
Last night, Georgetown hosted the first meeting for the Hilltop’s newest student organization, Club 196-89- 7009. The club is targeting Georgetown students with the Social Security number 196-89-7009.
“The turnout for the meeting was a bit scarce,” says founder Tom Davenport, the club’s founder. “But, we think the $500 from SAC, free copier usage, and our new office in the Leavey Center will be really helpful.”
The club plans on using University funding for hosting guest speakers (with the Social Security number 196-89-7009) and field trips.
The idea for the club started when Davenport saw how a small minority of Georgetown students had the Social Security number 196-89-7009. “Quite frankly I couldn’t believe it,” said Davenport, “students with the Social Security number 196-89-7009 should be embraced by the University, and frankly, they are not…and that’s the whole point of our club.”
According to Davenport, the club would not have been possible if other clubs had not cleared the way. GU clubs like Student Alliance Of Surnames Starting With A ‘Y’ (SAOSSWAY), Society Of Male Alaskans Looking To Limit The Persecution Of English And Northern Irish Students (SOMALTLTPOEANIS), and the Student Coalition Of Residents Of East Westbrook Maine (SCOROEWM) are just a few of the student organizations that Davenport credits.
In the future, Davenport (the 196-89-7009 Club’s President, Vice President, Treasurer and Membership Secretary) plans on forming alliances with Club 196-89-7006, Club 196-89-7005, Club 867-53-0900, and the Georgetown Solidarity Organization. Club 196-89-7009 holds meetings every Monday night at 8:00 PM in Gaston Hall, but come early because seats are limited.
